Moeding, located outside Munich in Germany, is the leader in supplying terra cotta for building facades in the world. In business for over 250 years, Moeding is owned by GIMA, a larger company which produces tiles, pavers and other masonry products. GIMA/Moeding is also associated with ERLUS, a public company specializing in terra cotta products.
Moeding invented the double leaf terra cotta tile for building facades and its unique horizontal aluminum clip and attachment system. Moeding has been awarded over 40 patents for its tile and support system which are in place on over 3000 buildings around the world. Some of these projects have been in place since 1982 in locations with climates as demanding as Scandinavia, Iceland, Moscow and the Middle East.
Moeding produces the highest quality tile in terms of water absorption, strength and flatness. With the longest and newest kiln in the world, Moeding can provide the largest tiles or panels in an energy efficient and economical process.
Moeding terra cotta rainscreen tiles come in two thicknesses, 30mm (ALPHATON® system) and 40mm (LONGOTON® system). The ALPHATON® system is lighter (ten pounds per square foot) and more suitable for shorter tiles. The LONGOTON® system (fifteen pounds per square foot) is more suitable for the longest tiles.
Both vertical and horizontal attachment systems are available.
